Ronchi sizzles as Kings taste first defeat in HBL PSL 2018

Sharjah March 4: A stroke-filled 71 run innings off only 37 balls including 10 fours and three sixes sealed a resounding eight wicket win for Islamabad United over Karachi Kings in the 15th match of HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 edition.

Ronchi was in sizzling touch on a Sharjah belter of a pitch as he took to cleaners the much vaunted Kings bowling attack that had played a major role in the team’s unbeaten run prior to the match today.

Ronchi added 104 for the opening wicket with JP Duminy in only 10.5 overs to break the back of the chase.

United had opted to field first after Misbahul Haq won the toss, their chase was made incredibly easy by the heroics of Ronchi who find an able partner in Duminy who stayed unbeaten at the other end with 43 seeing the chase through with Asif Ali (26 not out) in the 18th over.

Asif ended the match with a towering six off Imad Wasim.

Ronchi was named Man-of-the-Match for his stunning innings that is the joint top-score of the tournament so far equalling the 71 not out by Dwanye Smith also against Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

Earlier, the Kings total revolved around a 101 run partnership between Khurram Manzoor and Babar Azam, the two right-handers started their alliance at the fall of Joe Denly’s wicket who was cleaned up by Mohammad Sami.

Khurram maintained a better strike rate than Babar scoring 51 off 41 balls, Babar meanwhile scored 55 off 54 balls.

Both batsmen took their time to settle as Kings reached a below par 49 for one after 10 overs.

At this stage Kings needed some firepower to propel the score past the 150 mark.

Babar and Khurram departed in quick succession but runs continued to flow, the final flourish was provided by Mohammad Rizwan who took 15 runs off the final over of the innings bowled by Sami to help his team nudge past the 150 run mark.

Faheem Ashraf was the pick of the United bowlers taking three wickets in his spell.

The right-arm pace bowler conceded a mere 23 runs in his four over quota, he was ably supported by leg-spinner Shadab Khan who went wicketless but gave away only 25 runs in his four over.
